Why PvP "Rank #1" often has low Attack

Great League (1500 CP) and Ultra League (2500 CP) have CP caps. CP is heavily influenced by Attack, so a higher Attack IV can push CP up faster.

That means a lower Attack IV can allow the Pokémon to reach a higher level while staying under the CP cap, often resulting in:

  • more HP and Defense (bulk)
  • better overall stat product

So 15/15/15 (100%) is not automatically "best" for capped leagues.

How to use the IV calculator for PvP

  • Open the tool: Pokémon GO IV Calculator
  • Select Pokémon and type (Normal / Shadow / Purified)
  • Enter CP, HP and Stardust (power-up cost)
  • Check the suggested PvP ranks for Great / Ultra / Master

Quick rules of thumb

  • Master League (no cap): higher IV% is usually better, especially for meta picks.
  • Great/Ultra: the best PvP IV spread is often low Attack + high bulk.
  • Shadow can be stronger in PvE and can be viable in PvP depending on matchups—don't judge by IV% alone.
